SUMMARY:Lloyd Kiva New Fashion: from the collections of Robert Black & Doreen Picerne
DESCRIPTION:A combined passion for fashion, history, and preservation inspire the first fashion show at Bishops Lodge, in partnership with SWAIA and Amber-Dawn Bear Robe.\nIndigenous fashion has recently caught the eye of Native art enthusiasts, curators, and a niche general public. Despite this increased interest in the original design language of America, Native designers are neither new nor an anomaly.\nLloyd Kiva New was a pioneer of modern Native American fashion design and a cofounder and president emeritus of the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Born in 1916, “Kiva” New (Cherokee), is best known for developing interesting concepts in textiles and culturally-based education for students at IAIA during the 1960s and 70s.\nNew saw the power of fashion and the positive effect it could have for Native artists, and became one of the first Native designers to create a successful high-fashion brand. Lloyd Kiva Design Associates was launched in Scottsdale, Arizona, in the 1950s, helping to establish the city as a high-end art and fashion destination. Featured at Neiman Marcus and other luxury fashion retailers; New’s best-known works include purses and the color-clashing textiles he created and printed in his studio being showcased on the Bishop’s Lodge runway.\nThe show will feature Lloyd Kiva New fashion from the archives of collectors Robert Black and Doreen Picerne. The pieces featured on the runway tell his story through the use of color, pattern, style and design.\nReception: 3:00-4:00 PM\nFashion Show:4:00-5:00 PM\nTickets: $25-$150\nTickets are available at:  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/an-exclusive-runway-look-at-indigenous-fashion-icon-lloyd-kiva-new-tickets-396217094997?aff=escb&utm-source=cp&utm-term=listing&utm-campaign=social&utm-medium=discovery&utm-content=attendeeshare ( https://www.eventbrite.com/e/an-exclusive-runway-look-at-indigenous-fashion-icon-lloyd-kiva-new-tickets-396217094997?aff=escb&utm-source=cp&utm-term=listing&utm-campaign=social&utm-medium=discovery&utm-content=attendeeshare )\n
